Alexander technique study shows back pain benefits.
A BMJ study has found that Alexander Technique reduced disability and pain.
Alexander technique is a therapy that assists people to avoid bad habits that impact upon posture, co-ordination and muscle tone.
The BMJ study looked at the situation of patients after 24 lessons. The study found there was a 45% reduction in disability score and 18 fewer days per month, of pain, compared to a control group.
Alexander technique is not recommended by NICE because of issues over cost effectiveness. It can be expensive - approx £30 per session. Patients can find accredited teachers on www.stat.org.uk.
