An immune disorder is a dysfunction of the immune system. These disorders can be characterised by whether the immune system is overactive (in cases of autoimmunity such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes) or underactive (such as the immunodeficiency as seen in HIV and AIDS). Immunology covers the study of all aspects of the immune system, having significant relevance to health and diseases.
