‘Walk-in’ therapies

Walk-in therapies in Cliffe Hall - no need to pre-book

Day 1: Friday 30 September 2011
Location: Cliffe Hall

Time: ALL DAY 10am – 4pm

Stand 16 (am only): Bikram Yoga Brighton – Carolyn Jikiemi-Roberts

  • Bikram Yoga is hot yoga done at temperatures between 43-45 degrees C with 50% humidity. There are 26 postures and two breathing exercises
  • Each class follows the same sequence allowing you to improve, flexibility, strength, stamina as well as cardiovascular benefits.
  • You work your body inside out, bones to skin, fingertips to your toes. Your internal organs are massaged using the tourniquet effect, restricting blood flow, then allowing blood to rush back at high speed. This has the effect of flushing out organs, cells and glands improving blood flow and nutrition and the general healthy status of the organs and joints.
  • You sweat through the largest organ of your body, your skin, getting a great detox.
  • What this means in simple terms: Bikram Yoga can improve your general health, both internally and externally. Health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid conditions, osteoporosis, muscular skeletal issues, slipped discs, damaged knees, digestive issues, can all benefit from Bikram Yoga. No matter what your age or condition Bikram Yoga can help you.
  • Bikram says “Never too late, never too sick, never too old to start from scratch”.
  • Yoga is about breathing and stretching, the two are synonymous, and without one the other is difficult.
  • Special offer: Receive a 30 day pass for £20 if you sign up at the event.
  • For more information tel. 01273 420279, email info@bikramyogabrighton.com, www.bikramyogabrighton.com

Stand 16 (pm only): Bowen Technique – Jan Davies

  • I practice a range of holistic therapies including the Bowen Technique. I am a farmer’s daughter with a corporate career background including two years in HM Treasury.
  • It is a non-invasive, holistic therapy consisting of a sequence of gentle moves over muscles and soft tissue, interspersed with periods of rest. Practitioners are constantly surprised at the effectiveness of the therapy.
  • A treatment usually lasts about 45 minutes and can be applied through light clothing. It is recommended that in order to obtain the full benefit, other ‘hands-on’ therapies are not applied less than 7 days before or after Bowen as these may interfere with the healing process.
  • The Bowen Technique was developed by Tom Bowen in Australia and named after him following his death in the early eighties. It has since flourished and spread world-wide.
  • Jan trained with the European School of Bowen Studies (ECBS) and qualified in 2005 as a Bowen Technique Therapist and has attended many courses since.
  • Who can benefit? It is safe and effective for men, women and children of all ages. It can be used for relaxation and general body rebalancing, re-alignment and releasing. Pain can be addressed as can almost any injury or body malfunction.
  • The Bowen Technique encourages re-alignment of the body; there is no manipulation of hard tissue and no force is used or needed. Treatment at regular intervals can help manage stress and encourage health maintenance.

Stand 17: Mindfulness Course and information – Jiva Masheder

  • Are you feeling stressed, anxious or depressed? Is life hard work? Everyone feels life is hard at times; this course may offer you a way to learn to deal with it all and be happier.
  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is helpful and effective for relief from stress, anxiety, clinical depression and other chronic conditions. The course aims to help you relate to your difficulties in a different way so that they feel less overwhelming or unbearable. More and more research shows the wide application of these techniques to the difficulties that we inevitably face in life.
  • Through learning skills that help us face and see difficulties with calmness, clarity and wisdom rather than through a lens of unease, fear and frustration. MBSR integrates psychotherapeutic approaches with meditation techniques that can enable a different way of seeing and being. By taking a step back, we learn how to use a different lens through which to view the world.
  • I am a qualified teacher of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and I have been practising these techniques of mindfulness myself for 14 years and have seen enormous benefits both for myself and for my friends who also practise. I teach very much from my own practical experience with these methods. I have completed 3 years of training in the MA programme in Teaching Mindfulness Based Approaches at Bangor University.
  • If you would like to know more, I am available on the phone 01273 382 947 or via email yogijiva@yahoo.com
